Valiant Turtle test program.
A.K.A. "Baby logo".
I borrowed a Valiant Turtle from a nearby school to test
it (they weren't sure if it was working - they were right,
it didn't have plug on the power supply.), unfortunately, I don't have a copy of RM logo to test it with, so I had to write myself a test program.
It's written in Turbo Pascal (V6.0) (from Borland). To do the serial port access I found a unit called comm_tp5 (written by Kevin R. Bulgrien). Included in the zipfile is the source to both the unit and my program. Download it from here.
The program always outputs on COM2: at 2400 baud, since that'll will suit most people and there's no point going any faster, since you have to put a time delay between moves anyway. Connect the Valiant transmitter to your COM2 port, turn it on (connect the power supply) and turn the turtle on. Run the program - first time chose reSet (this sends some characters to the transmitter to set it up.) Then you have the following commands to choose from:
Key
Action
U
Pen Up
D
Pen Down
F
Forward
B
Backward
L
Left
R
Right
The motion commands are about 1 cm, and the turning commands are about 10 degrees.
If enough people ask I might get around to putting parameters in the program so you can calibrate it and choose which COM port etc.
I ran it under windows 95, (but had to be in DOS mode, due to the serial port access), but it should run under any version of DOS.
If you have any questions or would like any changes made to the program, please drop me a mail:alm@clara.net
Have fun,
